What mattress is better than Saatva?
Founded in 2010, Saatva specializes in direct-to-consumer high-end mattresses under 3 brand names: Saatva, Loom & Leaf, and Zenhaven. Pocketed coils provide the Saatva Classic a great amount of bounce near the top, and a plush top adds softness. As with all of the Saatva Company’s mattresses, the Saatva Classic is delivered by movers, rather than in a box.

While all of the Saatva firmness choices have pressure-relieving potential, the amount of pressure relief that a private experiences on the mattress will differ based partly on their weight and sleep position. Individuals who weigh under 130 pounds will likely experience the most press relief on the Plush Soft variation of the mattress, while sleepers over 230 pounds will likely get the best balance of contouring and support from the Company variation.
Note: Saatva recently updated the Zenhaven, changing the type of latex utilized in its foam layers. The Zenhaven now includes Dunlop latex, instead of Talalay latex; learn more about the distinctions listed below. We prepare to test the brand-new version quickly and will upgrade this guide with our impressions.
The all-foam Zenhaven consists mainly of latex, which is fundamentally resilient. The Zenhaven is also flippable (the High-end Plush side feels medium-firm, while the Gentle Firm side feels a bit firmer), which may prove useful if you’re unsure what you prefer or if your requirements change gradually. This is not a conventionally soft mattress, but it provides a flexible cushion, excellent edge support, and a subtle springiness. Given its inherent toughness, the Zenhaven must work well for people who weigh more than 200 pounds.
For this evaluation, I slept on the Saatva Classic, the Loom & Leaf, and the Zenhaven mattresses for several weeks in my own home. These bed mattress were also evaluated in our group tests carried out for Wirecutter’s guides to the finest foam bed mattress and the finest innerspring mattresses. As Wirecutter’s senior staff writer for sleep, I’ve talked to ratings of professionals in the bed mattress industry and in materials science; visited lots of bed mattress stores, factories, and showrooms; and pored over the small print on specs, service warranties, and return policies. Most just recently, supervising editor Courtney Schley evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid in her home for a number of weeks.

We haven’t yet done a deep dive into the “natural” claims of Saatva or of other “environmentally friendly” brands. But we do understand that the business utilizes thistle pulp or organic wool as a flame retardant (instead of fiberglass or chemicals) and just organic cotton (instead of artificial blends) in its covers. As do other online mattress companies, Saatva touts such additionals as zoned layers for “ideal spinal column support”; we’re less impressed with those functions and more appreciative of Saatva’s responsive client service and long lasting foams and coils.
